An investigative thriller game with non-linear storytelling, Telling Lies revolves around a cache of secretly recorded video conversations. It stars Logan Marshall-Green, Alexandra Shipp, Kerry Bishé and Angela Sarafyan. How does it work? Telling Lies sits you in front of an anonymous laptop loaded with a stolen NSA database full of footage. The footage covers two years in the intimate lives of four people whose stories are linked by a shocking incident. Explore the database by typing search terms, watch the clips where those words are spoken and piece together your story. Unlike anything you’ve played before, Telling Lies is an intimate and intense experience. A game where you decide the truth. Absolutely brilliant. Her Story was one of my favorite games and this is very similar mechanically. Everything else, though, feels like an entirely different experience. The twisting, turning story is filled with surprises while the player plays detective. And the story wouldn’t hold up without such incredible performances. Play this game.
Features of Telling Lies:
Clips being longer in comparison to Her Story – This leads to longer and more complex story telling, with many rabbit holes and dead ends. My personal opinion on this is that it is okay, and gives you more content to explore. You just have to be mindful of what is filler and be familiar with the video controls to fast forward and rewind as you are racing against a clock. Talented cast. Fun detective work. Solitaire included!
